To Santa Fe and Back again

I just returned from my second trip to Indian Market in Santa Fe. The prep and buildup to get ready for market season is always a whirlwind that starts months in advance and ends with stacks of finished paintings filling my home and studio.

SWAIA Santa Fe Indian Market has a long and rich history and just being accepted to participate in this the 97th annual market is such an honor. I had a new booth assignment this year, booth 804 on Marcy Street. I loaded up the car in the early hours of Friday morning and hit the road with my wife and infant daughter. The drive is long but the scenery is fantastic and the colors of the hills as you approach Santa Fe are remarkable.

We started our trip with a grand opening reception at Singular Couture. I had the honor of painting two of her couture silk jackets. It was a little outside my comfort zone but I was pleased with the pieces I created and was happy to be there for the grand opening reception in her expanded shop.

Saturday marked the beginning of art Market and another fantastic experience. It was a very successful market for sales but more importantly I met a host of wonderful people. Each market brings the opportunity to catch up with artist friends and collectors, as well as meet new art enthusiasts and business contacts. The most valuable part of market may just be those rich conversations and the inspiration I take home with me.
